Maha Shiv Ratri,
mean the night of Lord Maha Shiva. This night, aspirants of Lord Shiva do the
Ratrijagran(didn’t sleep whole night and do the worship whole night) and
worship of Lord Shiva. This religious festival comes in the months of Phalguna
and Shraman (According to Hindu Calenders). Lord hiva is also the God of
destruction. Duration of this religious festival is one day and night.
Origin of Shiv Ratri:
According to our religious scriptures; Lord Shiva drank the
deadly poison (Kalkut Vish), to
protect the universe; otherwise it was going to destroy the whole world. This
poison was emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan. Samudra Manthan was performing by the divinities
and demons. Lord Shiva keep the poison into his throat instead of swallowing
it. This act turned his throat blue that’s why he also called Nil Kanth Mahadev. As Lord Shiva save
the world that’s why Maha Shivratri
Festival celebrates.

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri, Aspirants make three
tiered platform around the active fire. The First on the top, plank mean
‘Swargloka’ heaven, Second plank represent the ‘Antarkhaloa’ (space), and final
and bottom one is related to ‘Bhuloka’ earth. Then they performed worship
Mantra which use to worship of lord shiva:
"Om Namah Shivaya!":
